The art of timing: When to travel to Indonesia
Situated on the equator, Indonesia has a tropical climate that works inversely to the rest of Southeast Asia (such as Thailand or Vietnam). Understanding the rhythm of its two main seasons is key to orchestrating a flawless experience:
Main draw: The perfect transition. April and May mark the end of the rainy season, offering dazzling emerald green landscapes, overflowing waterfalls, and seas that begin to calm. It is an excellent time to enjoy Bali and Java with fewer crowds.
Keep in mind: March can still bring residual showers. Humidity is usually high, but the bright mornings more than make up for it, allowing you to explore temples and rice paddies in spectacular light.
Key dates: The Balinese Nyepi or “Day of Silence” (usually falling in March). For 24 hours, the entire island turns off its lights, closes the airport, and immerses itself in absolute silence for fasting and meditation. A unique introspective experience in the world.
Main draw: The most sublime weather conditions in the archipelago. While the rest of Asia endures the monsoons, Indonesia shines with dry, sunny days and a constant sea breeze. It is the perfect time to explore Sumba, climb Mount Bromo, or dive in Menjangan.
